eat yourself happy

i promised to make some changes to my life when i came back from holland.

one of those things involves a healthier diet and regular exercise. since i’m still recovering from a chest infection it doesn’t look like the latter will happen any time soon but the diet is going very well, probably because it’s none too strict since it’s supposed to be like 4life, innit?

anyway; one of the deals is i get to have whatever i like for dinner, as long as it’s not deep fried fat with a lard sauce on a meringue base. hmmm… meringue

so about a month ago i was approached by heather menicucci who asked if she could use this picture to promote her short documentary film 1 bite 7 days. her project is based around a japanese proverb that says for every new food we eat, we gain seven days of life.

now… i’d imagine this proverb doesn’t really count for new recipes that include foods you already ate, but i have ocd so maybe my opinions are better left ignored.

either way, it’s really inspired me to get back into cooking and trying new things. so since i’ve been back i’ve been scowering the web for new recipes, preferably quick and easy ones, preferably with ingredients i already have in my cupboard and/ or freezer, to make sure nothing goes to waste.

the bbc recipe finder is probably the most helpful source in this case. it allows you to search by ingredient, but also by season and other specifications so you can really narrow down your search to what you feel like on the day.

the celeb chefs recipe guides are a lot harder to plough through, either having no search function at all, or no way to narrow down results. still, i reckon jamie, delia and nigel are all worth a go.

if anything they can give you new ideas of where to start. today i wasn’t really able to follow jamie’s recipe to a t, but his recipe did give me a starting point and then it was pretty smooth sailing from there. if all else fails you can always blame the ingredients, that’s what i do anyway.
